Anthony A few things about me that you might not (or might) hear in the music:

I was born in Tacoma, WA and raised on a healthy diet of Barry Manilow, Kenny G and a few good musicals (“Oliver, Oliver, never before has a boy wanted more!”).

The first CD’s I ever bought where Michael Jackson’s Bad and George Michael’s Faith.

I was a late bloomer. Outside of some middle school flute and some bad blues harmonica, I played nothing before I picked up the bass at age 25.

My five musical addictions in order:

  1. The Smiths (get: The Queen is Dead)
  2. The Grateful Dead (get: Without a Net)
  3. Blues (yep, just the blues – Not quintessential blues, but pretty good albums: Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf – Muddy and the Wolf, Buddy Guy – The Real Deal, John Lee Hooker – Mr. Lucky)
  4. Bob Dylan (get: Blood on the Tracks and Bringing It All Back Home)
  5. Bob Mould (get: Sugar – Copper Blue)

My bass idol is Stanley Clarke (get: I Wanna Play For You. No really, get it…now).

How I got here (Lagtime, I mean): Somewhere in the early 90′s I bought Guru’s Jazzamataz, which got me into Acid Jazz, which got me into 70′s Jazz Fusion, which got me into Jazz proper. Take that, add a healthy dose of hippy jamband music (which is mainly all I listened to during my college years at the University of Oregon (see musical addiction #2)), season liberally with the dark, stormy blues of Muddy Water’s Electric Mud and Luther Allison’s Bad News Coming, garnish with a bit of power pop and voilà – your Lagtime low end!

Enjoy.
